The crowd went wild when team Blitzerz from SMK Bandar Utama Damansara (4), Petaling Jaya, made history of sorts when it was crowned champion. In Cheer’s 10-year history, only four other schools had ever won the title.

“We’re absolutely ecstatic,” said Blitzerz captain Zoe Chia. “All the hard work and time we put in has paid off,” said the 16-year-old.

“We managed to break tradition and bring the trophy to our school.”

Blitzerz’ victory was all the more meaningful when even its supporters, decked in the team’s colours and carrying various banners, won the Best Supporters award.

The team also emerged third place for Silkygirl Best Make-Up award.

Besides the trophy, the team took home RM5,000 cash, a RM400 Silkygirl hamper, a RM300 Silkygirl hamper for teacher-cum-adviser, medals, RM1,400 worth of Momoe products, RM1,000 McDonald’s gift vouchers, two hampers from Marigold HL Low Fat Milk, RM700 grooming workshop course from A Cut Above Academy, RM1,200 worth of vouchers from Glitters – Sports Relief Manicure, RM960 worth of vouchers from Starbucks and Blackmores.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, who presented the prizes, lauded The Star for organising the competition, touted as the nation’s premier inter-school cheerleading championship.

“Cheer is all about harmony and 1Malaysia,” he said. “It is a recognised event and is highly anticipated in schools across Malaysia. Cheer is not just supported by the cheerleaders but also by the teachers and parents as well.”

The sporting minister thrilled the crowd when he danced to Michael Jackson’s Thriller as a tribute to the late star.

To celebrate Cheer’s 10th anniversary, The Star threw a concert featuring some of Malaysia’s leading indie bands including One Buck Short, Bittersweet, Love Me Butch and Deja Voodoo Spells.

Other winners of Cheer 2009 are first runner-up Shirtliff (SMK Seri Bintang Utara), second runner-up Calyx (SMJK Katholik), fourth place Titans (SMJK Ave Maria Convent), fifth place Dynamitez (SMK Damansara Jaya), Best Newcomer Warriorz (SMK Sri Sentosa), Marigold HL Milk Best Showmanship Pirates (SMK Cochrane), Best Dressed Calyx (SMJK Katholik) Silkygirl Best Make-Up champion Blazers (SMK Pandan Jaya), Silkygirl Best Make-Up first runner-up Calyx (SMJK Katholik) and Teacher of the Year Muriel (SMK (P) Pudu) Che Azwana Abdul Aziz.

With a total of thirteen members, they are the largest boy band in the world. These boys are talented and they are really funny in all variety shows! Couldn't believe that I, who met them last year during Mtv Asia Awards 08, will become their fan now hehe

What can i say about them? They are just adorable :D
